Snow Removal and Trash Update

Residents,

The winter storm has recently ended. Our area received approximately 6 to 8 inches of snow, followed by about 2 inches of sleet, for a total accumulation of 8 to 10 inches. This snow and sleet combination is extremely heavy and compacted, which continues to slow snow removal operations. Even with trucks, plows must make narrow passes due to the weight of the accumulation.

Two inches of sleet has a water equivalent of at least 10 inches of snow, meaning crews, along with all other contractors and VDOT, are clearing the equivalent of approximately 17 inches of snow.
Many VDOT secondary roads remain untreated, which continues to impact access and cause delays, including travel to and from the community. Vehicles remain stuck on some surrounding roads and within nearby neighborhoods, further slowing overall progress.

Snow removal

All the streets within the community are VDOT maintained and therefore plowed by VDOT, not the HOA. VDOT’s goal is to have all streets plowed within 48 hours of a snowstorm’s end. For updates you may contact 1-800-367-7623 (VDOT), and to request service you can access the VDOT website at https://my.vdot.virginia.gov/. Please remember, plows move, but do not remove snow.
If at all possible, do not travel on the streets until the snowfall is complete and plows have passed through the community. Driving on unplowed roads only compacts the snow; making it more difficult for sufficient plowing services to be effective, which can lead to the need for additional equipment.

In an effort to assist VDOT in the plowing process, please remove all vehicles from the street and park in your garage and/or driveway until the plowing has been performed.  This will allow VDOT to plow more than a single pass on the streets.  When plowing, snow may get pushed behind your vehicle or driveway as the plow makes a path down the drive lanes.

Please be reminded that homeowners are responsible for shoveling the sidewalks in front of their houses.  With the sidewalks clear of snow or ice, it allows residents and their children a safer walking experience when using the sidewalk to reach the bus stop instead of using the street.  Please ensure that the nearest fire hydrants are cleared for you and your fellow residents’ personal safety. Please also ensure mailbox clusters are cleared to ensure timely mail delivery.
Please do not throw snow into the streets when clearing your vehicles or parking spaces. This will increase the snow removal burden, as well as potentially blocking previously passable areas.

Trash Collection

Inclement weather can cause delays or cancellations in trash services. Trash service will not operate on Monday due to road conditions. The next service will be the regular collection currently scheduled for Thursday. We will share any additional updates as they are received.  Please do not place trash out if you are unsure if it will be collected.  Uncollected trash attracts pests and can interfere with snow removal efforts.

Dear Homeowners,

This email is being sent to clarify and correct recent guidance regarding access to the Newport Estates owner web portal.

The Newport Estates Board of Directors recommends that you continue to access all community and resident information through our HOA website:
www.NewportEstatesHOA.com

While the backend owner portal may change from time to time, our website address will remain the same and should continue to be your primary point of access for HOA information.

This message serves to correct the guidance sent by Keymont Community Management on January 7, 2026, titled:
“[#XN9400679] Reminder: Updated Portal Address for (Newport Estates Homeowners Association, Inc.).”

Thank you for your attention, and please feel free to reach out if you have any questions.

Warm regards,
Newport Estates Board of Directors
